HISTORY AND MISSION
NÛN SCHOOLS
At NÛN Schools, serving Allah is seen as an integral part of nurturing future generations and individuals committed to their core values. Therefore, we have adopted the six most important values that have sustained our civilization for centuries as the foundational values of the school. The values of love, respect, decency, responsibility, compassion, and justice are instilled in our students throughout their education. These values shape their character, preparing them to contribute to the world as individuals who strive to create a better and more peaceful society.
NÛN Schools recognize that raising leaders who will have a voice in the future is achieved by teachers who master all aspects of their profession. We strive to work together with teachers who touch the lives of students and guide them. Hence, NÛN teachers are carefully selected and fully aware of their responsibility to nurture individuals who will bring meaning to life. They open windows to students’ emotional and intellectual worlds, understanding that teaching is far more than just a profession.
Due to its unique location, NÛN Schools offer students an experience without boundaries. They learn by touching and exploring the earth, intertwining with nature, and working in cooperation for a sustainable world. By actively participating in an environment where the knowledge and talents inherent in human beings are discovered and nurtured through time spent in nature, they make significant progress in their artistic, scientific, and athletic activities through observations and experiences. Out-of-school learning enables students to grow into individuals who can focus quickly and develop self-discipline; their memory and health are refreshed as they build social connections and creativity. The time spent in nature gives students the opportunity to discover and develop abilities such as establishing cause-and-effect relationships, taking responsibility, and observing and exploring natural life.
Special classes have been designed to provide a holistic understanding of certain subjects. Students engage in practical learning processes in science, art, and music classrooms.
NÛN CAMPS
Since 2019, the guiding philosophy of NÛN Camps, where we offer enriching training programs for students, has been to strengthen our bond with future generations and to create environments that foster their physical and spiritual growth.
Let’s grow and learn as we go.
Let’s cultivate our leadership spirit.
Let’s enhance our capabilities!
Discover your potential.
At Summer Camp Istanbul, our priority is to raise ‘good-willed people.’
We believe it is possible to nurture young individuals who make decisions based on knowledge and conscience, translate these decisions into action through willpower, protect their integrity, benefit both themselves and society, and build a bridge between the past and the present for a better and more peaceful future. We aim to cultivate students who are filled with love, respect, responsibility, justice, compassion, and decency and who possess an intellectual and aesthetic perspective and vision.
Additionally, we strive to provide a structured, safe, caring, and multicultural educational environment where our students can recognize and respect different cultures and perspectives and dream of a shared future in a world where various ethnic and religious groups are coming closer together due to advancing technology and population movements driven by multiple factors. From this perspective, we are committed to providing each of our students with a quality education and training.
GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
As human beings, we are responsible for each other in our pursuit of a peaceful world. This responsibility requires respecting each other’s diverse beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds. In line with this approach, every individual and group is equally valuable. It is the most fundamental right of groups to protect their own identity, and this should not prevent them from integrating into the world.
We aim to raise individuals who are global citizens, have a sense of responsibility, respect and value different perspectives, are committed to protecting social justice and human rights, and can empathize with other cultures to make the world a more peaceful and sustainable place.
To help our students develop their intercultural communication skills on online platforms and digital applications, international educators from various parts of the world provide training support in professional and skill development fields taught in multiple languages. Within the scope of these courses, students have the opportunity to enhance their research, discussion, inquiry, and intercultural awareness skills through course modules in leadership, entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, scientific studies, sustainable living, and gastronomy.
CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING
What is Child Protection and Safeguarding Our Camps?
Child Protection and Safeguarding involve prioritizing children’s rights and needs at the core of the school’s mission, ensuring their safety and well-being. Child Safeguarding encompasses the policies and practices schools implement to keep children and other stakeholders safe, covering a wide range of topics such as health, safety, secure recruitment, online security, and staff training. This approach is empathetic and conscientious, addressing every aspect and detail related to the child’s welfare.
Child Protection is a component of Child Safeguarding that involves taking action to protect children who are at risk of harm or who have already been seriously harmed.
WELL-BEING
Well-being refers to a state of psychological, intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual health. It reflects students’ comfort, health, and happiness.
The entire school community has a responsibility to ensure and protect students’ mental health and well-being. Well-being is central to the school’s mission and forms the foundation of all work, making it essential for creating a successful learning environment.
Summer Camp Istanbul aims to foster a school climate that provides a safe, healthy, and happy educational environment for all students. Students can realize their potential without being excluded based on religion, race, sect, or education level. Resources and opportunities are available to everyone, and physical and mental health are closely monitored. The camp also frequently conducts awareness-raising activities on topics such as technology addiction, cyberbullying, and peer bullying.
DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
What is Digital Citizenship for International Summer Camp?
A digital citizen is someone who can critically use information and communication resources, understands the ethical consequences of their behavior in online environments, and maintains the ability to make independent decisions.
A digital citizen is also someone who can actively, positively, and responsibly participate in both online and offline communities, whether national or global, by developing a wide range of competencies. Developing competence in the use of digital technologies, which are constantly evolving and have some disadvantages, is a lifelong process that should begin at an early age in both formal and non-formal education environments, at home and in school.
Since security is one of the most fundamental elements in the digital world, we provide comprehensive training on critical issues such as cybersecurity, digital identity, and digital footprints to both our students and all our employees. Additionally, our Online Security Policy is designed to increase awareness of online safety among our students and employees. It includes a filter application for internet access to protect students from harmful content. Students can only access the filtered internet during the hours allocated to them.
Our IT Department provides students without computers and laptops with secure, protected devices equipped with filtered applications.
Furthermore, all our teachers are provided with laptops with secure and protected programs.
As part of our Child Protection and Safeguarding policy, the websites accessed by all our students and employees are monitored and protected through the school network.
HIGH-QUALITY TEACHING AND LEARNING
Our approach to high-quality education and learning is defined by teaching that provides students with opportunities to adapt their learning experiences and essential life skills to daily life.
To this end, we base our educational approach on fostering students’ ability to wonder, think critically, and engage in meaningful dialogue while learning. Through workshops, they also acquire essential life skills that they apply in their daily lives.
With these skills, we enable our students to learn and internalize new and diverse concepts more deeply through the varied learning and experiential environments we create.
Our high-quality education program also includes raising awareness of multiculturalism and global digital citizenship through international online education programs, all within the framework of our cyber and online security policy. In addition, we strive to increase awareness of multiculturalism by organizing online and offline training sessions for our teachers.
At Summer Camp Istanbul, we prioritize equipping our students with personal development and self-management skills, enabling them to turn their inherent curiosity into a lifelong learning tool. We believe that by recognizing their own strengths and weaknesses and learning how to manage them, both our students and other members of the school community will become more effective global citizens.
Our academic staff possesses deep knowledge and understanding of the subjects they teach. They apply this expertise in planning to develop our students’ learning skills, such as willpower, endurance, and perseverance. Recognizing that each individual is unique, our teachers also incorporate differentiation planning into the curriculum when necessary.
Additionally, our teachers plan lessons effectively, utilizing methods that vary according to their teaching styles. They create a positive and engaging learning environment by motivating students and systematically evaluating their learning processes.
During lessons, students have the opportunity to develop skills such as questioning, taking responsibility and initiative, critical thinking, research, team building and management, collaboration, creative problem-solving, and reflective thinking.
Our students are engaged in a learning process in which they take responsibility, conduct self-assessments, reflect on their achievements and learning outcomes, and enthusiastically pursue purposeful, understandable goals. They are also aware of their progress and understand how to achieve their objectives.
Our solid technological infrastructure supports both students and teachers, who benefit from all the physical facilities of our schools, such as rich libraries, observatories, various art workshops, and sports facilities, throughout their learning processes.
Thanks to our school’s physical facilities and its location in nature, we can both explore and observe the natural world and integrate it into our lessons. With sustainable living clubs and nature discovery programs, our students and school community have the opportunity to harvest, collect, and extract lavender oil, discover living organisms in nature, set up weekend nature camps, and develop a deep empathy for nature.
